Hello, everybody.  

Taiwan is a beautiful island country. And our city, Ping-tong is in the south of Taiwan, which is said to be as warm as spring all the year round. But some still consider the big sun too hot, in particular in Ping tong; the southernmost of Taiwan.

Taiwan Island is surrounded by four seas. The east is the wide sea, Pacific. The west is the narrow Taiwan Strait, which is known as the "black ditch". The southern sea is the Bashi Channel, and the north side is the sea Korean called East Sea.

Because of these factors, the climate of Taiwan is hot and wet. There are usually afternoon thunderstorms in May and June; and there are typhoons, a common weather in many countries surrounded by the sea, like Taiwan, always bring so much rain that cause many disaster in July and August every summer.

Then, Mt. Dawu and Kaoping river will be introduced.     

Mt. Dawu is an only mountain higher than 3000 meters in southern Taiwan. It is at the southernmost of Central Mountain Range, the main mountain range in Taiwan. There are many animals in Mt. Dawu, even some care class animals. For instance, Formosa bears; Sunny Bear also came from this beautiful mountain.

Kaoping River is the important river, whose river basin is the largest and widest in Taiwan. And the bridge above it plays an important rule to communicate Ping-tong and Kaohsiung, the most developed prosperous area in southern Taiwan.

History   

Ping-Tung, the south of Taiwan, is our city. Actually, it is not called Ping-Tung in the beginning. AKAUW, Ping-Tung's old toponym, pronouncing by the aborigines means monkeys. Due to Ping-Tung is located at the east of Ban-Ping Mountain, AKAUW is renamed Ping-Tung recently. (Ping is the name of the mountain. Tung means the East in Chinese.)

    

Natural Beauty

Pingtung is located in the southern part of Taiwan. It is surrounded by the sea and the four seasons look like spring. We have the beautiful coral reef, the seawater and the white beach which always appears in fairy tales. We love diving and enjoy being close to the sea. We view and admire groups of the colored topical fish, seeing the moment that the coral produce several ten millions of eggs. Words can’t explain the vitality and the experience. Under the sunshine, the people in Pingtung are becoming enthusiatic,hospitable and optimistic.

Culture

There are three major ethnic groups in Taiwan: Taiwanese, Hakka and Aboriginal. In Ping-Tong, most of the inhabitants are Taiwanese and Hakka. Both of them have different food and tradition.Hakka have a lot of special food.

 The Steamed Dumpling with Red Bean Smashed is the typical food.When people get married, it is an essential food .When we worship our ancestors, it is also used as offerings. It is soft,tastes delicious and smells good.

This is Taiwan Aboriginal Park, which leads us to aborigines world. They have special clothes and houses. This kind of house can make people warm in winter and cool in summer. That’s great, isn’t it?

Kenting is one of the most popular tourist sites in Pintung. It is a good place for you to see azure sky and wide sea. You can swim in the beautiful ocean and play on the sand. After that, you can enjoy shopping in Kenting street.

  

Ancient Architecture

These are some architectures that can be seen commonly in Taiwan.

Some of them are the traditional houses, and others are the temples.

Through these architectures, we can understand Taiwan's culture more deeply.

Wanluan Pig Knuckle

Pig Knuckle is so delicious that I can’t wait to eat the second. It is a juicy and tasty food in PingTung’s Wanluan.

PingTung’s Rice

Our Taiwanese live on rice. It is sweet-smelling and soft. In addition, rice is also the main food in Taiwan.

Ligang Wan Tan

It is like steamed dumplings, but it is eaten with soup. It is also a delicacy for us.
